I cannot believe CCP has introduced a 0.0 system for soverinty where by it enhances the use of blobs and introduces "payments" for areas of space with no claim by any faction other than fellow players.
This is just an enhanced capture the flag,, which is a completly dumbfek idea if ever I saw one.
0/10 CCP utter fail.
Drop sovernity, this space doesnt have "ownership". Drop any idea where blobs -> win. Drop provinding one source of income.
A better suggestion IMHO would be to fight over contracts offered by Highsec/Pirate factions for minerals/modules/moon resources/ships/officer gear/faction gear/faction tags/raids of opposing factions resources.
The most lucrative position being given to the corporation which can provide those resources to highsec factions or even pirate factions. Getting a better political standing which gives even further profits and political power in highsec. ie first opportunity on some contracts and a chance to influence future ship development ?
This would give a reason for corporations to fight (over the contracts), force them to choose sides, give fighting a broad spectrum of things to compete on - minerals/moon minerals/ship production/modules from rat drops etc and the logistics that of course moves the goods. Maybe even faction outposts which should be protected (under contract) by player corporations.
It would also force 0.0 corporations to choose between providing resources for NPC factions or enhancing their own position. ISK or security by increasing their own resources.
Alliances would then make sense across a broad spectrum as it may be advantageous for corporations supporting opposite faction contracts to cooperate in order to maximise their position within their own faction contacts - by ignoring opposite faction assets and attacking each others competitors.
If you were really sneaky you could have a double level of standings/alliances one seen the other known only to those in the alliance/faction. And then some way to spy on activities/meetings on these covert operations and be able to sell the information/blackmail.
The only way I can think of doing covert faction activities is to bring in some kind of item/module/contract/meeting that can be either captured or logged. For example some kind of transmitter beacon which enables an opposing faction contract supporter to gain access to your territory and bypass your defences to enable them to attack your competitors.
Fighting between corporations providing resources to the same faction would be frowned upon by the contract holders,,, if they found out about it of course.
Lots of reasons to join together, to fight amongst themselves, fight opposing factions and encourage enemies to subvert your "friends".
All you would then need to do is have changes in highsec as a result of completion of the those faction contracts that might lead to territory changes or inter faction NPC wars,,, and there would be a whale of a time.
